She was born on January 10, 1936 in Mobile, AL to William and Mary Kathryn Hanley, Sr. In her life’s journey, her accomplishments were wide and varied. Her education is an example of achievement where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Providence School of Nursing; a Bachelors of Arts in History from Rollins College, a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from Rollins College; and an MBA from Virginia Polytechnic University which ultimately led to her career as an accountant for the U. S. Department of Energy and the Administrative Office of the Courts, U. S. Supreme Court. Ever active, she was an avid golfer, tennis player, and loved traveling with her husband. Through the years, she played the piano and the French horn. She sang in choirs for churches, weddings and special occasions.
Mary Lee attended St. Thomas Catholic Church and was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Charles E. Mason, Sr.; a son Charles E. (Chip) Mason, Jr.; and her parents, Mary Kathryn and William B. Hanley, Sr.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Gambuti of Oak Grove, MS; a grandson, D. Quentin Grief of Hoboken, NJ; two granddaughters, Julia Erin Grief of Johannesburg, South Africa, and Kristiana Kathryn Gambuti of Raleigh Durham, NC; a brother, William Barrett (Becky) Hanley, Jr. of Mobile, AL; two nephews, Thomas W. (Demaris) Hanley of Durham, NC, Michael B. Hanley of Jacksonville, FL.
Visitation for Mary Lee will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. with a Rosary to be said at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February, 3, 2018 at the Hattiesburg Chapel of Moore Funeral Home.
