A group of 31 boarded the Co-Lin motor coach and traveled to Collins for a fun-filled day.
“We started off seeing Sanford Village, a neat place not on any map. It’s available to view by appointment only. American Pickers went there and weren’t allowed to buy anything…only dream of the things they wanted,” said Kim Whittington of Wesson, ILR member since 2015. “This place has 15 buildings of antiques and memorabilia.”
The group had a hearty lunch at Shady Acres in Seminary and then made its trek over to Covington Ridge Retirement Home. Locals know it as “The Ridge”.
“We were so happy to have them visit our beautiful facility. We get lots and lots of visitors but not too many from Copiah, Lincoln, Lawrence, Pike, and Franklin counties – and none on a tour bus that we can recall (jokingly),” said Jessica Breazeale, the Director of PR and Marketing of The Ridge.
The tour group was treated to homemade ice cream by The Ridge staff.
“We make homemade ice cream for our residents every Wednesday, so we thought that would treat the group to dessert…Ridge-style!” Breazeale stated.
Covington Ridge Retirement Home is a 29-suite facility in Collins and located across the street from Covington County Hospital. Many of the suites are occupied by husband and wife. Residents decorate their suite much like their home and receive an exceptional level of health care. The Ridge is a luxurious retirement home that rolls out the red carpet for its residents serving three delicious, home-cooked meals daily, hosting regular church services, and provides daily activities such as arts & crafts and entertainment.
The ILR group took a facility tour of The Ridge and loved seeing the beauty shop, sunroom and library. They visited with many Ridge residents before boarding the motor coach back to Wesson.
