During the on-site investigation, it was determined Kayla Reeves, 23, of Collins, was supposed to be watching and caring for the child. When deputies arrived at a residence on Scoggins Drive where Reeves was staying, she stated the baby was in her custody and she was the responsible party. She was taken into custody and later charged with Child, Contributing to Delinquency or Neglect.
During Reeves’ interview she stated her boyfriend Clarence Walters, 25, and his mother Brenda Del-Rio, 46, both of Taylorsville, saw the injuries to the infant and did not call nor seek medical attention for the child. Del-Rio was questioned concerning the baby and stated she indeed saw the injuries and told Reeves to take the baby to the doctor, but didn’t make sure she did. Del-Rio went on to say it was none of her concern what was done to the baby.
Del-Rio and Walters were taken into custody and charged with Child, Contributing to Delinquency or Neglect.
Del-Rio and Walters had their initial appearance Tuesday, August 8, and their bonds were set at $10,000 each.
