ATLANTA (AP) — Forecasters are warning that a winter storm could soon bring snow and a wintry mix of precipitation to a large section of the Deep South.

The National Weather Service on Thursday has winter weather advisories covering parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and Birmingham, Alabama, are among cities covered by the advisories.

Forecasters say that up to one inch of snow is expected in some areas, by Friday morning — a time period which will include morning commutes to work in many parts of the region.

Forecasts call for light snow accumulation around the metro Atlanta area. The National Weather Service said there remained "significant uncertainty" Thursday about the snowfall amounts and which parts of Georgia will see it.
